Tree Jays - “Palm Reflections”

Palm Reflections was a multimedia installation at the Oakland Botanical Gardens in 2021. The installation featured lighting, and audio driven by electrical signals derived from the live flora in the area in real time. This communication of electrical energy into lights and sounds were aided by multiple physical installations, increasing the felt sense of immersion. 

The set up process was more involved due to a number of different physical effects and elements created by Taylor Gore, (Practical Effects Director, and Mechanical Engineer by profession) which allowed for a complementary and immersive experience. 

"Delusions of Control" was an installation created for a month long music residency at The Elbo Room - Oakland, CA. in June of 2022. 

The event was organized by popular Funk band Planet Booty, as a way to give back to their audience in the Bay Area, and continue to create and promote inclusive and creative spaces and experiences for their local community.

The initial arcade controller had to be constructed from parts in order to give it the more tactile experience for audience members in the crowd.  

Shane Kavanaugh was able to support in development and creation of the physical stand. The design of the stand was to serve several purposes. Firstly, it creates a central focus, and allows for a safe and strong base to interact with the installation. 

This controller directly connects the audience to the visuals being displayed behind the bands.

The visuals would rotate through the installation weekly, with the final week bringing back the most popular visual. Some additional visuals were created for social media and promotion throughout the month (included below as well).
